And The Winners Are....

Savannah International Animation Festival

The Savannah International Animation Festival, SIAF, founded by Hal Miles Imagimation Studios president Hal Miles, is the premiere animation festivalof the southeastern United States. 2010 is our inaugural year of SIAF here in the beautiful jewel of the south Savannah, Georgia and we plan on making it a magical one.

We are proud to showcase the world's best independent, professional and student animation in the arts and fields of animation, visual effects, and animatronics and in all genres and themes of each.

We will be hosting SIAF 2010 at the Coastal Georgia Center. Which is located at
305 Fahm St., Savannah, GA 31401. Featured over the two day period will be 7 blocks of animation shorts, consisting of over 60 juried films from 15 different countries; and 8 workshops and panels.

The judges for this year’s festival were a wonderful mix of professionals and historians from the fields of animation, visual effects, and animatronic arts. SIAF's festival judges decided 10 special awards that represent the best in each competition category and also the best in show award. The categories which had entries for the SIAF 2010 were Stop Motion Animation, Computer Animation, Traditional Animation, Experimental Animation, Web Animation, Gaming Animation, Visual Effects, and Student Animation.  Additionally there will be a special audience given award that will be judged by our audience members that attend the animation block screenings at the festival!

The prize given for each category winner in the Savannah International Animation Festival 2010 is the custom made “Reynaud” trophy, which is named in honor of the Praxinoscope's French inventor Charles Emile Reynaud. Any additional prizes for each category will announced in the future.

"It is the thrill of breathing ‘life’ into one’s own creations and at the same time giving them individual personalities that makes an animator’s work so uniquely exciting and fulfilling.”

- Ray Harryhausen

Basic Rules of Submission

  • ALL animation films must be in the time range of 5 seconds to 30 minutes. Animation only. No live-action. Multimedia pieces containing live-action elements may be considered, but works should be primarily animated, so keep this in mind before sending a short film that has non-animation elements like Hi-8 footage, photography or any element, which is not animation specific.
  • ALL visual effects shots or films must be in the time range of 5 seconds to 30 minutes. These shots or films can include animation and live-action but the primary concentration should be on visual effects.
  • ALL animatronic shots or films must be in the time range of 5 seconds to 30 minutes. These shots or films can include animation, visual effects, and live-action but the primary concentration should be on animatronics.
  • You may submit more than one shot or film, but please submit a separate entry for each shot or film you submit. If sending two or more animations, visual effects, or animatronics you may write one check / money order for all films. Be certain to add total fees on check as work will be rejected if you send more than one piece and do not enclose proper submission fees.
  • Our submission preference is an NTSC Quicktime burnt onto a CD or DVD. Preferred Quicktime formats are:  H.264 Compression, Animation Compression or DV-NTSC.
  • Preferred frame rate is 29.97.
  • We cannot play PAL media. Please do not send anything in PAL. DVD's that play universally (all regions) are fine as well, but NTSC works best for us.
  • You may also submit your entry on NTSC VHS, but take note of our preferred submission.
  • Please be sure to label the spine of your submission with your film's title and animator, visual effects artist, or animatronic artists contact information. If submitting more than one short or shot, you must fill out a separate entry form for that film or shot and pay an additional submission fee.
  • Do not send us your only copy of your animation, visual effect, or animatronic film or shot. Any materials you send us will not be returned. You will receive a confirmation of your received media through the WAB portal once it has been processed in our system.
  • All works, even if mastered on film, will be transferred to a digital stream for the festival. This is why we ask you to submit a high quality copy to begin with, so you don't have to rush us a master copy two weeks before the festival
  • PUT your CONTACT information on ALL MEDIA!!!
